COVID in Cartoons, a research project led by academics at the University of Leicester, is looking for students in Years 11-13 to take part in a 4-hour mini-course that will explore the prevalent themes of the pandemic and build skills in source analysis, discussion and artistic interpretation. By analysing political cartoons created during the pandemic, and creating their own pieces, students will develop diversity and cultural literacy skills, and the tools and resilience to process the crisis during the all-important recovery period.
Please get in touch with our partners, Shout Out UK, at maddy@shoutoutuk.org if you’d like to hear a little more about the project.
Further to the live event, the presentations were fantastic and we are sharing the recording as a resource for parents and carers to watch at a convenient time.

This will be followed by a live questions and answers session.

13/4/21 – Engineering and manufacturing
14/4/21 – Digital

All will be at live from 17.00-18.00 and will be recorded and made available for later use by schools and colleges.

A special female focussed virtual army careers event is taking place on the 13th May. Their objective is to maximise engagement with potential female candidates by introducing female service personnel who are experts in their chosen fields and hope that this will demonstrate that the army is an employer that values diversity and promotes inclusivity, whilst conveying our unique value proposition.
The event will showcase the personal and professional development opportunities available during an army career: serving female soldiers will give a brief presentation, providing examples of progression based on merit, not gender, and drawing on their first-hand experiences. This will be followed by a general Q&A about army life for female soldiers (duration, c45 minutes to an hour).
After a short break, there will be a carousel careers fair: over the course of the remainder of the event (around an hour to 90 minutes) interested parties can move between 6 breakout spaces to participate in immersive activities, becoming engaged in thought provoking and stimulating exercises, getting a flavour for the associated duties and expertise of the specific regiments and corps attending.

Virtual Tours
It’s not easy for any of us having to work on a virtual platform but that said our Virtual Tours have been a huge success and Applications continue to flow. I personally really miss coming into schools and speaking to your students. Lets hope that 2021 will be a much better year!
If any of your students who have not yet accessed a Virtual Tour all they need to do is go to our website – facilities – Interactive Virtual Tour. https://www.stamford.ac.uk/college-life/campus-tours
Stamford College are hosting a series of Virtual Open Events.
Follow the instructions below to join.
Why not take advantage of our virtual ‘small group’ sessions for students who may benefit from working within a smaller, informal group. Any students who are not necessarily comfortable asking questions, are encouraged to send them in via their tutors. This can also benefit larger groups. It works incredibly well and gives students food for thought and confidence during challenging times! We aim to make each session as informal and interesting as possible. We encourage them to do their research and explore all further education options.
We are very keen to help wherever we can. Lets hope that 2021 brings us back into a face to face world but in the meantime this really works well! Christmas is fast approaching, I would encourage you to consider booking ASAP while we still have capacity during the next 5 weeks.
