The Arts
As we proudly tell everyone, we are a specialist arts college. What does it mean for our students? It does not mean that we are a ‘fame academy’, or a stage school. It does mean that we can broaden the range of courses and opportunities that we offer our students in all aspects of the arts because we recognise the important part that ‘the arts’ play in young people’s education. It also means that we have embarked on an ambitious community programme involving a number of other schools in the town, as well as other partners in the wider arts community, offering local people the chance to participate in a variety of arts-based activities.
Our own students have the opportunity to experience all aspects of the arts curriculum. We also involve our students in creative learning days – not just in the arts, but across the whole curriculum. Older students enjoy the chance to study traditional courses in arts subjects and also others that lead to vocational qualifications - at 14-16 and 16-19. In addition, all students are able to take advantage of the rich offering of extra-curricular activities associated with music, dance, drama and the media – as well as sports, ICT and many others.
Highlights of our year in the arts are our annual ‘Kingswoodstock’ Arts Festival which showcases our students’ talents in art, music, dance, drama and media studies and our Gifted & Talented Arts Awards Ceremony, an exciting evening of celebration - in addition, of course, to the many music, dance and drama productions.
