Year 8 Options
There have been very significant national changes to GCSEs and equivalent qualifications, and after internal discussions, the Academy has decided to expand Key Stage 4 to cover Years 9, 10 and 11. This means that Year 8 students will need to make their GCSE option choices this academic year, in order to start on those GCSEs this coming September.
After Christmas, students will begin considering their options choices through a thorough process including; assembly presentations, studying the Options Booklet, speaking with their Form Tutor, speaking with their subject teacher, ‘taster’ lessons in some subject areas, and of course speaking with parents.
To support Year 8 students and their parents in this process we are pulling forward the planned Year 8 Parents’ Evening to Thursday 25 January 2018. The evening will be expanded to include GCSE subject stalls to enable parents to ask teachers about their subject area. The evening will also involve a presentation about the options process. The process for Year 9 students will continue as planned, with a Year 9 Parents/Options evening taking place on Thursday 1 February 2018.
Letters have been distributed to all Year 8 students regarding these changes to the Key Stages and the Options process.
